Throughout the register, a number of conventions are used to represent abbreviations of surnames. These include:
. | A period. |
{a-} | I have used this notation to represent an "a" with a line over it. |
{e-} | I have used this notation to represent an "e" with a line over it. |
) | I have used this notation to represent a stroke that begins at the bottom of the previous letter and continues upward, curving back upon itself. |
{f~} | I have used this notation to represent an "f" with a tilde over it. |
{...} | I have used braces, { }, to indicate other unusual character situations that cannot easily be represented in HTML. After each, I have placed an explanation in square brackets, [ ]. |
