Scotch Woman from Speed's Map of Scotland

The 1662 edition of John Speed's map of "The Kingdome of Scotland" replaced the four engravings of King James VI & I, his wife Anne, and their sons Henry and Charles from the original 1610 edition with drawings of "A Scotch Man", "A Scotch Woman", "A Highland Man", and "A Highland Woman". The map was printed in London and it is doubtful that the engraver had ever seen any Highlanders, though it is possible he may have encountered Lowlanders who were visiting London.

The human figure in the middle right side is captioned "A Scotch Woman".
